Owasso is welcoming its newest member to its healthcare community. Ashlock Chiropractic opened its doors in March at the new 76th Street Professional Plaza at 76th Street North and 129th East Avenue.

Dr. Justin Ashlock, owner, is the former owner of Ashlock Training, Athletic Speed Agility and Power, and strength and conditioning coach for the Texas Rangers organization. He is taking a new approach to assisting people with performance.

"I always knew that there was something more to feeling great than just exercise and nutrition. I think the addition of chiropractic care is the answer and everyone can benefit," said Ashlock.

A long time advocate of chiropractic, Ashlock feels if joints are restricted and not moving correctly, it is impossible to maintain the quality of life one desires.

Nagging injuries, strains, sprains and headaches are just a few of the problems that he believes we don't have to "just live with."

"I have always recommended chiropractic care to athletes and laymen alike," he said. "I was an athlete myself and have always felt that chiropractic was the secret to my remaining injury free."

After graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in sports medicine and his stint with the Texas Rangers, Ashlock and his wife, Leah Francis-Ashlock, an Owasso graduate who holds a B.S. and M.S., founded Ashlock Training, A.S.A.P. and Progressive Pilates Health & Fitness in Tulsa. The Ashlocks have lived in Owasso for six years with their children Makenzie, Rylan and newest addition, Brady.

"Owasso is the only community in which we can imagine raising our family," Ashlock said. "Our family is here, our church family is here and it is a perfect fit for me to serve as Owasso's chiropractor."

Ashlock said that his desire is to educate the Owasso community on the benefits of chiropractic care in addition to a sound exercise and nutrition protocol and eliminate overuse of pain medications and muscle relaxers so readily prescribed in today's society.

"I really feel that there is a dangerous trend in medicine. While they may have their place, pills only mask the symptoms while chiropractic attempts to attack the problem from the root," he said.

He intends to pass along the model of "Total Wellness" to the community. Wellness, according to Ashlock, is an all encompassing approach to healthcare: exercise, diet, chiropractic care, good sleep habits, proper posture, avoidance of chemicals like tobacco, drugs and alcohol and centering with a sound spiritual life.

Daily routine, improper posture, poor mental attitudes and bad habits lend to poor communication between the body and the brain. Ashlock believes that by removing these restrictive mechanisms from our lives may increase our "quality" and just may be the "miracle" we are looking for.

He said Owasso residents are fortunate to live in a community where the wellness model is so readily accessible.

"There are so many great church families, doctors, trainers and therapists in this city," he said. " I strongly urge people to get out and make that investment in wellness. It will certainly increase the quality of their family's lives and may increase their lifespan, as well."

Ashlock is excited to invite the community to his office and meet him and long-time Owasso resident Kristi Plummer-Minton, assistant and office manager.

"I'm excited about our office and excited about the prospects of doing my part in keeping Owasso moving and keeping families healthy," said Ashlock.
